James Reid broke his silence regarding the issue, clearing out Nadine Lustre's name on it. When interviewed by ABS-CBN News during Nadine Lustre Birthday Celebration yesterday, he said that the break-up was a mutual decision, describing it as "better way for everyone." He also said: "I wanted take my showbiz career seriously and I found it too hard at the same time --handling both a relationship and work --and I had such a big opportunity. I didn't want to waste it. She [Villongco] understood naman," he said.
James Reid and Ericka Villongco broke up last March, just before Diary ng Panget was released. During that time, Nadine Lustre and the young actor were busy taping the movie. To end the speculations, even Ericka Villongco defended Lustre saying that she already talked to Nadine and described Reid as "faithful, [and] very loving" throughout the three-year relationship".
During her halloween-inspired celebration, Nadine Lustre also stressed why she kept mum about the issue, she was quoted saying: "Hindi ko naman kailangan i-explain sa kanila iyon kasi hindi naman talaga. Kung ayaw naman nila maniwala, hindi ko na problema iyon. We all know that truth naman talaga."
Villongco also supports the JaDine tandem, even saying that she wants them to end up as a couple in real life. Nadine's reaction to this was simple: life: "Masaya kasi at least, kahit papano, kahit hindi maganda 'yung break-up nila ni James, somehow, parang may suporta na rin siya sa akin at kay James..."
